Allotment Rules

SUTTON CHARITIES

ALLOTMENTS FOR THE LABOURING POOR Rules for the use and maintenance of the allotments

  1. The allotments are let solely by the trustees. No sub-letting is allowed under
    any circumstances,

  2. Tenants are expected to co-operate with the trustees in keeping the land
clean and paths alongside each individual allotment tidy. The allotments must
be kept under cultivation and used for productive purposes.

  3. Rent is due and is payable on 1st February for the coming year.

  4. No structure of any kind to be erected without the permission of the trustees.
This includes fencing. Small sheds are allowed for the storage of tools and
equipment at owners risk, but permission must be obtained first. Greenhouses
    are not allowed.

  5. No livestock is permitted, but owners may take a dog with them provided it is
tethered and kept within their own plot,

  6. Hosepipes must not be connected to taps nor the taps left running. The water
supply is metered and is normally turned off in the winter to prevent frost
    damage,

  7. Although there are no restrictions on occasional garden bonfires in the
Doncaster Council area at present, please be mindful that smoke can be a
nuisance to other allotment holders and neighbours. Doncaster Council will
take appropriate action on persistent offenders. If you must have a bonfire
please make sure that the wind is blowing away from the houses and that it is
completely out before you leave and not left smouldering. Most plant material
will compost if it is cut up, or alternatively bag it up and put it in your green bin
    at home.

  8. The trustees rule that no hedge will be tolerated except the outer perimeter
    hedge of the total acreage.

  9. Only chemicals currently licensed for garden use may be used. Creosote is
now a banned substance and is therefore not allowed, nor are agricultural
chemicals under current law. Spraying must only be carried out on calm days
in order to avoid spray-drift onto adjoining gardens.

  10. Small rotavators which are propelled by the rotors and with a power no
greater than 3.5 h. p, and similar grass mowing equipment may be used
between the hours of 9.00 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. But do not use noisy
equipment. Grass on the central driveway is cut by a contractor.

  11. Vehicles are not allowed inside the gated area.

  12. The trustees can give six months notice to quit to any tenant breaking the
    rules or neglecting their plot.

  13. The trustees reserve the right to amend or add to any of the above rules if the
occasion arises in which it is necessary to do so.

Please remember we have neighbours and keep noise down to a minimum at the roadside.
